Shake well with cracked ice. Strain into cocktail glass. Decorate with a twist of lemon peel and 1-3 pearl onions.

The most underrated of all martini cocktails, a personal favourite of mine. Try stirring the gin with 1/2 a barspoon of red onion marmalade, and use another barspoon for garnish in the bottom of the glass for a modernised gibson, use a decent gin (I like tanqueray TEN).
