There’s nothing better than the ORIGINAL! Just having returned to the mainland from Maui, I can tell you very few places use this (the original) Mai Tai recipe but the ones you make at home are “Heaven in a Glass”. For the main ingredient Trader Vic used “a bottle of 17-year old rum. It was J. Wray & Nephew from Jamaica-surprisingly golden in color, medium bodied, but with the rich pungent flavor particular to the Jamaican blends”. I must say this drink is a TRUE CLASSIC!

The closest thing to J. Wray & Nephew these days is Appleton Estate rum (same company). Dark plus white rum is the best for the drink.
