Glassware - the balanced bar

Choosing the right glass was considered absolutely essential at one time. Now is a more relaxed age and we are less rigid about the choice of glass used. Below are some glasses you should consider purchasing.

After all it doesn't do much for the image of the amateur bartender if the same glass is used over and over again!

The shot glass

A small glass that is used for high alcohol content drinks.

The cocktail glass

An elegant glass used for  many cocktails.
Has a thick stem so as to stop your hand from warming the drink.

The martini glass

The classic cocktail glass! Perhaps the most famous of them all.
Used for martinis and margaritas.

The Brandy balloon

The large surface area of this glass allows the brandies aroma to rise.
And a narrow mouth to gather the aroma when drinking.

Port and sherry glasses

Small wine glasses used for small portions of fortified wine.

The champagne saucer

Not a very good glass for champagne as it allows the bubbles to
dissipate too quickly.

The champagne flute

What a glass! This elegant glass is excellent for any drink with bubbles in it.
As it is tall, it shows the bubbles off as they rise.

The lowball glass

Often used for bloody marys and other drinks that have a large mixer-alcohol ratio.

The highball glass

Often used for fruit punches and harvey wallbangers.

The paris goblet

A standard wine glass.
