Habilis:
I would use Cointreau every time over generic triple sec. Cointreau is a Triple Sec just a superior one. Grand Manrier and Orange Curacao are also of the Triple Sec family. The term means triple dry, in the case of Cointreau it means triple distilled.

Taran Richmond:
I believe that the main difference between Triple Sec, Cointreau and Grand Marnier is that Grand Marnier is a cognac based liqueur, Cointreau is a brandy based liqueur and Triple Sec is a typical liqueur.

Boudier Triple Sec i have tried and found sweet and watery, although they do now make Orange Curacao in an upmarket bottle, but not sure if that's really the same stuff. Bols orange curacao is much nicer, if you can get it. i'm making pimms this week wi

Henry Whistleparp:
Oh my God I'm so unhappy.

MixMaster:
Little confusion here it seems. 'curacao triple sec' to give its full name is a bitter orange drink usually bottled around 40%ABV (80 proof).

Drinks such as blue Curacao, orange curacao, green curacao etc, are made from the same bitter oranges as

MixMaster:
Triple sec, but are bottled at 20-25%ABV (40-45proof). The colour is added artificially to create something that can be used to make colourful cocktails.

MixMaster:
Triple sec and cointreau are not the same thing. They can sometimes be used interchangeably; it very much depends on the quantities involved and the base spirit in the drink itself.

Khouran:
Triple sec meaning 'Triple distilled' is a strong, sweet and colorless orange flavored liqueur. It is made from the dried peel of oranges,Grand Marnier and Cointreau are popular triple sec's

Matt:
Cointreau IS a triple sec. It is a TYPE of triple sec. Grand Marnier is also a type of triple sec, made with a cognac-base. You can use Cointreau in any recipe that calls for triple sec or orange curacao.

Use Triple Sec. Cointreau lacks a bit of something.

Matt:
I would say triple sec is general term for an orange liqeur. Cointreau and Grand Marnier are premium examples that are stronger than your ordinary triple secs. Orange Curacao is just a type of triple sec just like you have blue curaceo, green etc. that is
